RFC 4445

Media Delivery Index (MDI) is a lightweight and scalable metric for monitoring the effect a delivery network has on video and, ultimately, on end user Quality of Experience (QoE). This is a video specific metric that reveals QoS issues not previously detected with other methods. Only MDI allows video delivery operators to measure network jitter on both, constant and variable bitrate streams on standard live multimedia transport streams. On multi-program streams, MDI enables jitter and loss monitoring on a per-program basis. Because of these capabilities, its low cost of implementation and its ease of use, the Media Delivery Index metric is the key performance indicator for video delivery networks.

This RFC memo describes the Media Delivery Index (MDI) for information purposes. MDI is a patented technology of IneoQuest Technologies. If you need to obtain more information, please contact us.
