IneoQuest Sr. Consulting Engineer Jim Welch to Present Technical Paper at Cable-Tec EXPOJune 4th, 2008 - Jim Welch will be presenting “Assessing and Troubleshooting Common Intermittent Digital Video Impairments (and how to prove to your vendor it really happens!)” as part of the workshop sessions during the 25th anniversary Cable-Tec Expo, scheduled for June 24 – 27, 2008 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA.
This session will discuss and illustrate state-of-the-art and proven tools and techniques using “divide and conquer” strategies that have recently been successfully used to rapidly track down and isolate the root causes of certain common broadcast digital video, SDV, VOD, Video Insertion, and HFC transient impairments. Case studies will be used to illustrate their value. Emerging delivery systems offer new and exciting features that help scale current system capabilities to meet new market demands but are often more complex to troubleshoot when things go wrong. The techniques described include how to capture and describe the problem so that equipment and content providers can more quickly provide corrective actions to resolve the faults. Included are techniques and metrics that can help service providers determine system health and find impairments before subscribers start reporting them.
